Offering Exceptional Counseling Services To Atlanta For Over 20 Years!

Since I can't know exactly what information you may find valuable in order to decide if I'm the right counselor for you, here's a little general background you may find useful. But don't just take my word for it: read what others say about me.

I've been in the business of helping people achieve personal growth and life satisfaction since 1984, and I'm ready to help YOU now. I'm conveniently located next to I-285 at the La Vista Road exit, near Northlake Mall.

I provide supportive counseling and in-depth psychotherapy to adults, and I work very effectively with both individuals and couples. I'm active and engaging in my approach, meaning that my clients and I work together to uncover, explore and resolve their issues as deeply and quickly as possible. I'm comfortable with both brief and longer-term therapeutic relationships. I'm experienced with a lot of theoretical orientations so that I am not limited to any one counseling style. After all, what works well for one person may not be as effective with another. You'll find that no matter what type of work we are doing, I'm always listening carefully to how you think, feel and act in relation to your life in order to help you develop and explore strategies for sharpening and empowering the way you engage your world.

I work effectively with people who are dealing with a wide variety of emotional or relational difficulties. This can include depression, anxiety, marital difficulties, and substance abuse problems, to name just a few of the many reasons people seek me out. In addition to traditional "talk" therapy I am trained to provide the remarkably effective techniques of EMDR and Brainspotting to enhance and amplify the growth and healing process.

Couples find that I'm very balanced and effective with relationship issues. I enjoy helping partners rediscover their feelings of warmth and comfort for each other, stop unproductive bickering, recover from affairs, rekindle hot monogamy, heal resentments and resolve the big and little problems that can get in the way of enjoying a satisfying, fulfilling relationship.

No matter what specific issue we are addressing, my overall goal is to help you develop and sustain a positive sense of yourself -- at peace with your past, empowered in your present, and able to make healthy choices for your future. These are not just idle words or a marketing ploy, but my sincere commitment. Do you deserve any less?

I provide highly personalized attention to all of my clients. While I regularly help people from all walks of life, I often work with affluent and high-profile individuals who expect exceptional anonymity and discretion. These include other therapists, attorneys, physicians, corporate executives and people who are easily recognizable due to fame. My discreet office, secluded off-street parking and separate entrance and exit provide heightened privacy, and clients never have to interact with any administrative or support staff -- only me. This is one of the many ways I offer every client the utmost in individualized personal service.

In addition to my general counseling practice, I've had extensive experience helping people deal with compulsive sexual behavior such as out-of-control use of internet pornography, serial affairs, commercial sex services and other addictive sexual behavior. For years I served as a member of the board of directors of The Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH). For three of those years I coordinated the SASH national conference. In 2004 I was honored to receive the first "SASH Merit Award" for outstanding contribution to this organization.

I've also provided training on a wide variety of topics to many hundreds of therapists over the years. I've given many seminars on the ethical dimension of psychotherapy, appearing frequently at many prestigious national conferences over the years. In addition, I've authored several professional articles that have been well received and are often cited in other publications. You can see some of these under the "Articles" section of this web page.

In addition to counseling people just like you, I also provide consultation and supervision to newer therapists who want to develop their skills to the highest potential in order to become more effective and skillful in their work with clients. I've also served as an ethics consultant and expert witness for the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists.

Finally, I believe my qualifications go well beyond my education and experience. I'm a husband and father of two school-aged children. For years I maintained an extremely busy private practice which I now limit to the times my kids are in school in order to meet my higher calling as the primary at-home parent during the week. Because of this change, I see fewer clients than I used to, which allows me to be more focused and balanced in my work with those who entrust me to help them.

I hope this brief description of some of my professional and personal background will help you to decide whether I am the person that you want to work with. If you want to know more, or if you think you're ready to set up a time to meet in person, feel free to send me an email or give me a call.
